We use proprietary qualitative and quantitative methodologies to generate a line of published research studies used by firms to evaluate industry trends. Our clients include the world’s largest asset managers, brokerages, banks and insurers.

The goal of this position is to broaden and deepen Cerulli's US retirement research.

We are looking to hire a Boston-based Senior Analyst for our U.S. Retirement practice which analyzes the defined contribution (public and private), defined benefit (public and private) and IRA markets. Each market is analyzed from three levels; retirement plan provider, plan sponsor and plan participant. In every market we track, we focus on issues surrounding distribution opportunities, product development, service, and pricing.

The person hired must have a deep knowledge of retirement industry issues and insight on key players, including marketplace strategies and tactics.  Candidates for this position are likely to come from product management, relationship management, market research, business analyst or sales roles.

This position requires heavy writing, including identifying and providing commentary on relevant industry trends.

The role requires heavy writing and reports into Cerulli's Director of Distribution.

Responsibilities fall into four major categories:

I.  Research and Analysis

  • Identify new research topics as well as opportunities to deepen existing research.
  • Develop new surveys, refine and enhance established proprietary surveys
  • Identify new data sources and potential survey partnership opportunities
  • Work with quantitative analysts to garner targeted survey responses
  • Use warm and cold leads to build a network of contacts to set up and conduct research interviews (40+) for each report

II. Report Writing

  • Brainstorm, plan, and write thought-leadership-oriented research reports.
  • Issues addressed will cut across product development, product demand, distribution channel dynamics, regulatory outlook, marketing, pricing, and strategic positioning.
  • Analyze quantitative and qualitative research, bringing together data and text in 100+ page studies
  • Integrate key implications and recommendations throughout reports
  • Work with editorial staff on suggested revisions and edits
  • Research and write Cerulli Retirement Edge and Cerulli US Edge articles. 

III. Project Management

  • Oversee and coordinate all aspects of research initiatives from report concept to report release 
  • Keep report in track to meet its interim and final deadlines, and provide regular reporting to management on report progress
  • Work closely with quantitative analysts to identify, collect and synthesize data for reports
  • Track research calls and maintain inventory of detailed research call notes

IV. Other

  • Support CA account managers by fielding client questions and presenting research insights to clients
  • Handle press inquiries
  • Assist marketing in development of report-focused marketing communications and press releases

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have 7-10 years in financial services, and preferably 5+ years experience in an analytical role related to DB or DC markets, possibly in a product management, relationship management, market research, business analyst or sales role.
  • Solid working knowledge of asset management industry, including underlying retail distribution channels.
  • Must have strong organizational, interviewing, writing and editing skills, and be comfortable interviewing and presenting to senior management.  Requires strong analytical skills, including comfort with Excel.
  • Must be able to build network of research contacts for each report using warm and cold leads to secure relevant interviews.
  • Requires aptitude for applying steps of a disciplined research methodology to individual report studies.

This practice examines trends among asset managers across retail and institutional channels.

Retail asset management examines retail third-party distributed and subadvised product development, distribution and marketing strategies and tactics.

Institutional asset management covers trends in pension funds, insurance, endowments, foundations, sovereign wealth funds, investment consultants, subadvisory, and public and corporate entities.

The person hired for this position will:

  • Work in collaboration with other practice members to provide quantitative analytical support and written commentary for CA’s retail and institutional asset management research and publishing needs.
  • Participate in research calls and meetings with senior executives.
  • Interface with Survey Analyst to administer surveys and analyze results.
  • Work to increase survey participation by identifying appropriate clients and e-mailing and calling target participants.
  • Work with Morningstar Direct and Strategic Insight SIMFUND databases, as well as other 3rd party databases.
  • Assist in building databases to provide regularly updated analyses of key metrics in relevant markets. Duties include data gathering, management, analysis (including related commentary), chart creation and assembly.
  • Help maintain relationships with industry trade associations, third-party data vendors, and government agencies.
  • Propose and develop new analyses to add to CA’s proprietary research.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have 3+ three years experience in financial services, preferably in a product management, research or analytical role in the retail or  institutional channel. Cerulli Associates is looking to hire an Account Manager based in Boston. It requires regular travel. The goal of this position is to use every available client touchpoint to cultivate and build a book of client relationships and increase revenue for the firm. This is not a commission-based position.

Cerulli’s marketing, promotional, and sales activities extend internationally and focus on a full suite of publications (more than 50).

The position’s primary role is to increase Cerulli Associates’ business among qualified financial services firms and to support Cerulli’s current client base with superior service and support. The role works closely with a Boston-based marketing and business development team, as well as with analysts across Cerulli’s practice areas.

Successful candidates for this position are independent, motivated, and enthusiastic individuals interested in contributing to a global market research operation by forging relationships with senior level executives. The role requires a sense of entrepreneurialism, curiosity, innovation and an underlying interest in asset management analysis.

This position reports into the Director of Marketing & Business Development.

Responsibilities for this position fall into four major categories:

I.  Sales

  • Make daily, revenue-generating, outbound calls to current and prospective clients on regular and one-off campaigns generated by marketing
  • Prospect for business via other warm lead lists including ‘new’ contacts, subscription renewals, recipients of targeted direct mail and email campaigns, client login requests, research sample requests
  • Identify new prospects using in-house and third-party sources
  • Provide regular reporting to management on progress and success
  • Maintain minimum level of daily outbound calls and touchpoints
  • Maintain minimum level of proactive monthly meetings and conference calls

II. Relationship Management & Client Service

  • Maintain & grow a book of business by providing regular, proactive support
  • Respond to client questions and inquiries related to Cerulli research, including intermediating access to Cerulli’s team of analysts.
  • Provide superior client support
  • Turn client questions into relationship building and business opportunities
  • Increase spend level of existing client base through careful analysis of clients’ businesses, decision makers, and the Cerulli products they’ve purchased (and not purchased)
  • Map out key champions at your accounts
  • Present progress and raise related issues at weekly business development meetings
  • Conduct regular face-to-face meetings, conference calls and other touchpoints

III. Travel

  • Meet with clients and prospects regularly by setting monthly and quarterly rotations and schedules
  • Establish well-defined goals and follow-up strategies for revenue generating outcomes

IV. Research Content

  • Be proficient in delivering the Cerulli Associates story, including the research methodology, product line and services overview
